Canon Communications and InHealth to Present Healthcare Reform Panel in New York
June 8 session will focus on likely outcomes of landmark legislation
Los Angeles, CA (June 3, 2010) – Canon Communications and the Institute for Health Technology Studies (InHealth) are partnering to present a special session, “Innovation and Reform: What’s Next for Medical Technology Businesses?” on June 8 at Canon’s Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference in New York City. The session will focus on the range of likely outcomes from healthcare reform, and how those outcomes might affect medical technology businesses–and the patients who rely on them.
The InHealth panel will facilitate discussion about the challenges facing U.S. healthcare reformers in the form of rulemaking and other tasks needed to implement the nation’s landmark reform legislation. It also aims to advance understanding of how new policies might affect the carefully balanced business environment that supports medtech innovation. Panelists for the session will include Scott Gottlieb, MD, resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; William Homer, tax adviser in the life sciences and healthcare group of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu; Susan Reardon, director of medical device and diagnostics federal affairs and policy at Johnson & Johnson; Randel Richner; and Anthony G. Viscogliosi, founder, chairman, and CEO of Small Bone Innovations Inc., and cofounder and principal of Viscogliosi Bros. LLC.
“The medtech industry needs to be very clear that the innovations of the past 20 years have saved or radically improved millions of lives that would otherwise have been lost or created a huge financial burden on our healthcare system,” says Viscogliosi. “Proposed fees and actions that stifle innovation will restrict the availability of quality care–no question.”
MD&M East is the premier East Coast event for research and development, design, engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs professionals within the medical manufacturing industry. This year’s conference will take place June 7–10 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, in New York City.
